Modes, levels and boards
In brief
Two modes: "vs AI", against the computer at three levels, and "2 players", on the same device. Three star boards per device type, and an option to play again after a triangle. Everything is chosen in the New game window.
The two modes
- vs AI: you are Player 1, the computer is Player 2. You always go first.
- 2 players: two people take turns on the same phone or tablet; Player 1 goes first.
The first launch offers "vs AI", Medium level, small board, Play again option turned off; the app then remembers your last choices.
The computer's levels
| Level | How it plays |
|---|---|
| Easy | Always takes a triangle it is offered. Otherwise, it plays a random line; half the time, it avoids giving you a triangle. |
| Medium | Calculates the best moves ahead (minimax method), looking 2 lines deep on the app's boards. |
| Hard | Calculates further ahead (3 lines on the app's boards), examines more moves and is wary of triangles it might leave for you. |
The computer waits half a second (500 milliseconds) before playing, so that its line stays easy to follow.
The boards
The number of stars depends on the device. The stars are scattered across the whole board, differently in each game, and the entire board fits on the screen.
| Board | Phone | Tablet |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 24 stars | 80 stars |
| Medium | 60 stars | 120 stars |
| Large | 120 stars | 180 stars |
The more stars there are, the tighter the board and the longer the game.
The "Play again after a triangle" option
Off by default. When on, it lets the player who just closed a triangle play again, so you can chain several triangles in the same turn: see the rules and the game replayed with the option.
